Secondary School
Four Tracks, One Goal — Finding Your Fit
Secondary school in Singapore is not one-size-fits-all. From 2024, the former Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical) streams have been replaced by Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB), allowing students to take subjects at different levels based on their strengths rather than being locked into a single stream.
The O-Level examination taken at the end of Secondary 4 (or 5 for some students) determines access to Junior College, Polytechnic, ITE, or Millennia Institute.
- Full Subject-Based Banding (Full SBB) implemented from 2024
- Integrated Programme (IP) schools skip O-Levels, offering direct JC entry
- Singapore-Cambridge O-Level results released each January
- ELR2B2 score used for JC posting; aggregate score used for Polytechnic
